DNA Database Internship

The Council for Responsible Genetics is looking for an intern to assist with its long-term project on the expansion of DNA databases. There are many social concerns associated with the increasing prevalence of this technology, including genetic privacy and the exacerbation of existing racial biases in the criminal justice system. Tasks would include working with the CRG staff on researching newspaper and magazine articles, academic papers, books, and other related materials, for examples of how DNA databases have been applied, as well as various critiques of them. This intern would also organize and summarize these materials so they can be formatted into a bibliography. (You can see examples of similar bibliographies CRG developed for our project on genetic determinism on our website, at www.gene-watch.org/programs/determinism.html.)CRG needs a diligent, hard-working individual to help us with this project, as new developments are constantly unfolding. This topic will only increase in relevance and impact on our rights and liberties in our technologically advanced and security-minded society. It is therefore of the utmost importance that watchdog organizations like CRG educate the public on the potential dangers that can arise when technologies such DNA databases go unchecked. Application Materials 1. Cover letter detailing why you are interested in this project, what you hope to achieve during your internship, the time frame (and approximate hours per week) you have available for an internship, and any other relevant information.
2. Current resume, with academic and professional experience
3. Short writing sample (2-3 pages) on any topic that reflects your writing ability and style. Mail to:
